DES MOINES, Iowa - Police and fire crews found a 38-year-old woman and the dog she was watching dead when responding to a pedestrian struck call Sunday morning.
The victim and the dog were found in the 1700 block of Beaver Avenue in Des Moines at 8:13 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle involved abandoned the vehicle near the scene and fled on foot.
Des Moines Police officers located that person nearby and took him in to custody with no resistance. Police are still investigating the crash.
The victim's name is being withheld until family is notified.
