Des Moines Police car hit by gunfire, one officer with minor injuries

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Des Moines Police car was struck by gunfire late Christmas night, leaving one officer with minor injuries from broken glass. The incident took place at 10:34 p.m.

The patrol car with two officers was traveling eastbound in the 1600 block of University Avenue when it was hit by bullets.

The injured officer was treated by Des Moines Fire Department medics.

It's not known if the officers or the patrol car were the intended targets.

Police detectives are looking at evidence, interviewing witnesses, and following leads.
