Wet Weather Slows Iowa Farmers

DES MOINES, Iowa-- Wet weather across Iowa last week kept farmers out of their fields last week.

The Iowa Agriculture Department says with just under three days suitable for field work, just 15 percent of the corn crop was planted last week. So far, the state's farmers have put in 36 percent of the crop, one day behind last year and five days behind the five-year average.

Eight percent of soybeans have been planted, two days behind last year and the five-year average.

This week's not likely to be much better, with rain in the forecast through Thursday--possibly heavy rain in central Iowa.
