Ottumwa mom to stand trial for murder in September

OTTUMWA, Iowa - An Ottumwa mother accused of strangling her five-year old daughter with pajama pants goes on trial in September.

Police say Kelsie Thomas confessed to murdering her daughter, Cloe Chandler in July of last year.

The child was found unresponsive in the family’s homeon North James Street on July 19th, 2018. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The day after the child's death, police say Thomas told them she found her daughter in a closet hanging by the neck from a pair of jeans.

Court documents say during a following interview with investigators on July 26th, Thomas confessed to strangling Cloe with a pair of pajama pants. She was charged with murder and arrested the same day.

WHO Channel 13 reports the trial will take place in Wapello County.
