Dallas County, Iowa to host Prairie Awakening

DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa-     Dallas County Conservation’s annual Prairie Awakening Celebration is this Sunday, September 9, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Kuehn (KEEN) Conservation Area between Redfield and Earlham.

Organizers say world champion hoop dancer, Dallas Chief Eagle will perform an exhibition of dance and story telling around a bonfire, and native drums.

The theme of this year’s celebration is Elders and Trees.

Organizers say four burr oak trees will be planted during the festival this year. The ceremonial planting is both a physical and symbolic honoring of the Elders instrumental in the creation of the celebration.

This event is free and no registration is required. No pets please.  Concessions will be available, but guests are asked to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.

Directions to the KuehnConservation Area, and a detailed schedule of events, can be found on the Dallas CountyConservation Board webpage, www.dallascountyiowa.gov/conservation.
