Indianola man gets 19 years for child porn possession

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  An Indianola man's been sentenced in Federal Court in Des Moines to more than 19-years in prison, after being found guilty in a jury trial of receiving and possessing child pornography.

Authorities executed a search warrant and seized a computer belonging to 33-year old Scott Jacob Smith in 2013.   Investigators found child porn on his computer at his Indianola residence.

The case was prosecuted as part of the US Justice Department's "Project Safe Child" initiative, which began in 2006, as part of a national effort to reduce the incidence of sexual exploitation of children.

This investigation was conducted by the United States Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation – Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, United States Marshals Service, Indianola Police Department, and Iowa Department of Human Services.
