Des Moines man gets 15-years for firearms violation

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A Des Moines man has been sentenced to 15-years in prison, after admitting he used a third-party to buy firearms for him.   

Thirty-two-year old Shannon Maurice Johnson is a convicted felon.    A co defendant, Carolett Layva bought the weapons at Des Moines are gun shops.   Police found a gun on Johnson during a traffic stop in Illinois a year ago.    

Leyva is to be sentenced in Des Moines February 20th.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Illinois State Patrol, Mid Iowa Narcotics Task Force, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. 

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
