A Gold Medal for a Meredith magazine

Mini Gardens & Terrariums, published by Meredith Corporation, has received the 2017 Media Awards Gold Medal of Achievement for Best Overall Magazine, presented by GWA: The Association for Garden Communicators.

Mini Gardens & Terrariums, which is one of the titles created by the Garden Group of Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Media, was originally published in 2016. Group Editor James A. Baggett and Senior Associate Art Director Nick Crow produced the magazine with Contributing Editor Susan Appleget Hurst and Contributing Designer Stacey Willey. Two other Meredith garden titles, Country Gardens Spring 2016 and Cut Flowers & Bouquets, received Silver Medal awards in the first round of judging.

Judges’ comments about Mini Gardens & Terrariums included, “Bright, charming, lively, and imaginative, with lots of clear how-to instructions to make gardening inviting and accessible for new and small-space gardeners.”

The GWA Media Awards are the only national awards for the garden media industry, and recognize individuals and companies who achieve the highest levels of talent and professionalism in garden communications. The 2017 competition resulted in 76 silver medals across 60 different categories, and 10 gold medals were awarded at the 2017 GWA Awards & Honors Dinner, held on Monday, August 7, in Buffalo, New York.

“We are honored to be recognized by GWA and our peers in gardening communication with this award,” said Appleget Hurst. “Our writers, photographers and editors work hard for our readers and it’s a privilege to be awarded by industry experts for their exemplary work.”
