Iowa law enforcement officials are very satisfied of the results from the 8-day Interstate 80 Challenge that took place over the last week of July. No fatalities occurred in Iowa on that stretch of highway.
Patrick Hoye, the head of the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau says the results are something to be proud about, "I-80 is one of the most heavily traveled roadways in the U.S., so we feel very fortunate."
Hoye says the increased patrol helped change driver behavior. During the campaign they issued 1168 citations along with a drug seizure of 55 pounds of marijuana in Eastern Iowa.
Nationally, two deaths occurred on the 2900 mile interstate during the 12-state challenge.
